"Designer" Babies
Project Description: For this project, we were given topics to choose from(based on our unit at the time, which was DNA) to do a presentation on. There was an option to propose your own idea, so I decided to propose the topic of genetic modification in babies. I got the okay from my teacher and set to work on the project! This was personally one of my favorite projects of all time, because the way I presented it was something I had never done before. In my slides, you'll see that there are no words. I presented with pictures while verbally explaining my project! The presentation went really well, and I felt really accomplished after!

Which 21st Century Skills do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I feel in this assignment the 21st century skill I used the most is Informational skills. I feel this way, because I had to gather information on a completely new topic. It required a lot of research through technology, and looking at past and currency studies.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am proud of the format/the way I presented this project. What makes this presentation special to me is that there were no words on any of the slides. It was a picture presentation while I verbally explained everything. I thought it really grabbed the audience's attention, and afterward I felt accomplished.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skills with this assignment?
I improved in my 21st century skills(Informational skills mostly) by researching for the project, and I actually used a lot of scholarly articles for this assignment, which I had never really done before. I feel I also somewhat improved in my communications skills, because I had to present and effectively explain my idea to an audience, and I fell like I did that.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult thing about completing this project, in my opinion, was gathering research. As previously stated, this is the first assignment I had ever really used google scholar for, but my teacher encouraged me to use those types of articles, so I did!
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
If I could completely start over, I maybe would have tried to find more pictures to put in. I was trying to create some variety in the presentation so people weren't just looking at pictures of DNA over and over, but there isn't much available on google photos.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This project relates to what I have learned in the past, because in every middle school science class I had, there was always a unit about the human body, DNA, and functions of the body. This years biology is the most in depth class I've ever had, and for a long time biology/ learning how the body works has fascinated me. I even remember asking my teacher for some advanced science courses in 5th grade. This project just fueled my love for biology!
How can you apply this to future learning?
Like I've said before, I really love how I set up this project. I'll definitely be using this presentation technique for future slideshows/presentations.
