Daniel Inouye Trailer
Description of Work: In English this quarter we started a Hawaiian Heroes Unit/competition. Each student chose a hero from Hawaiian history to research and compete in challenges on behalf of our hero. I chose Isaac Davis. Unfortunately, my hero didn't make it into the finals, so I teamed up with a few people in class to create a movie trailer to Daniel Inouye's life.(Daniel Inouye was a group members hero. He made it to the finals!) We ended up winning the competition, and I'm very proud of the editing I did in this video.

Which 21st Century Skills do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
In this project, I feel I used interpersonal skills. I feel this way, because I successfully worked cooperatively with a team, and we won our competition! Throughout the process of creating the video, my team members and I were positive and listened to one another's ideas. We basically knew exactly what we wanted on the first day of working together.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of the editing in this assignment. This is what I'm most proud of, because it was communicated early on that I would be doing all of the editing, and I was perfectly okay with that! I really love editing videos, and it's actually something I do in my spare time. I feel the video came together really well, and that my editing skills have really improved since I first started.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skills with this assignment?
I feel I improved my interpersonal skills with this project by working effectively with my group. We pretty much had a game plan from day one. My group members were all very open minded and easy to work with.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult thing about completing this task was time management. I asked my group members to try to get all of the clips they wanted used in the video to me at least three days before the trailer was due, and I actually had to start the day before it was due, because I didn't get the clips on time. Everything ended up working out in the end!
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
If I could redo this project, I would start the editing process sooner. I say this, because editing the night before was pretty stressful. I wasn't able to show my group the trailer in person, so I had to make sure I had it finished by the time I told them to check their emails.(Since we didn't have each other's cell phone numbers, due to the fact that one member doesn't have a phone)
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This relates to what I have learned in the past, because I use some similar editing techniques actually taught to me by my sister! Looking back at some of the old videos I've edited, this is definitely a huge improvement, and I feel like I've learned a lot through trial, error, and experience.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply what I learned from this project to future learning by continuing to practice with editing programs. I also learned that I need to improve my time management skills, so that's definitely something I'll remember for the future.
