Monsters in Literature: Group Project - Communication Skills
Reflection 4
Name of Assignment: Monsters in Literature Group Communication
Subject: English 257
Facilitator/Teacher: Morgan Andaluz
Description of Work/Assignment: This project revolves around relating themes we have discussed in my Monsters in Literature class to themes in modern-day horror movies. I have had to independently communicate with three other group members to discuss our final project and further details.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
This project addressed communication skills because I've had to communicate with peers from my college class to discuss things like what movie we will be watching, who will be assigned what role, and what we would like to do for our final project. (Google slide, podcast, etc.)
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am proud of myself for effectively communicating with my groupmates, who were strangers before all of this, and getting things done.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I improved upon my communication skills because I effectively communicate with my partners through various platforms(although we've settled on a group text now), and we are working well together.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most challenging part about completing this task was taking the leap and talking to strangers. These people are real adults, so I was initially very intimidated to speak/work with them. Now, however, I see that they're very kind people and that we work well together.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
If I could redo this project, I would've reached out to my group members sooner. I initially waited because everyone hadn't responded in our google doc, but it turns out we could've started our project much earlier.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This relates to what I have learned in the past because I have had to work in a variety of groups before; however, this is my first group assignment in a college class, so it is still a bit nerve-wracking.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply this to future learning when doing more collaborative work in future classes. I now know that it is best to reach out as soon as possible and stay ahead of time.
