Psychology Notes - Self-Directional Skills
Name of Assignment: Lesson 1 - Note Taking
Subject: Psychology
Facilitator/Teacher: Doug Day
Description of Work/Assignment:
The first lesson of my psychology class was on proper note-taking techniques. The techniques shown make notes easier to follow/understand as well as help store the information in long-term memory.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why
This assignment addresses self-directional skills because it allowed me to examine my learning needs and try a new method of note-taking when I determined my old one was no longer sufficient.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am proud that I've found and implemented a technique that genuinely works for me and reduces the stress and anxiety of test-taking.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
This lesson helped me improve my self-directional skills because it taught me that when I pay attention to my educational needs and take action, I can greatly improve my academic experience and set better goals for myself.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of completing this task was getting rid of old habits like writing unnecessary information and scribbling rather than writing.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
I can improve upon my skills by continuing to use this new method in my future notes for not only psychology but my other high school and college classes as well. The only thing I wish I had done differently was try to find a solution sooner.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
I've had to take notes for nearly every class I've ever taken, and I'm glad that I've now found a method that truly works for me.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply the note-taking I've learned to all my future classes and continue to struggle less with tests and course material.
