This year I'm in Spanish 2! One of the main projects we've done this year is our restaurant project! We were to choose one of the three countries the teacher assigned to research their local food, and create a menu. I chose Peru!
Which 21st Century Skills do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
In this project I feel like the 21st century skill I used most was global awareness skills. I feel this way because when this project started I knew close to nothing about Peru. Now I know a small part of Peruvian's culture as a whole, and that's what global awareness is about. Being able to not only effectively communicate with, but understand other countries and their culture.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am proud that I was able to write my presentation completely in Spanish. Granted, the teacher helped all of us students, but I learned a lot from this presentation, and furthered the extent of my vocabulary.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skills with this assignment?
I feel this particular project improved my global awareness skills, because I had to research another country I knew nada about. Previously I've had to research Venezuela, and this project made me even more excited to travel and put my Spanish speaking skills to use some day.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult thing about completing this task was figuring out what to say. Not every english sentence translates perfectly to Spanish, and vice versa. That's why I'm very grateful for the help of my Spanish teacher, Mr.Grose.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
If I could redo this project, I would maybe divide up the research I had to do so I could do half one day, and another half the next day. I need to improve my time managements skills, and this project helped me realize that.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This project relates to what we have learned in the past, because we've previously learned about South America. However, we didn't learn much more than the different country's names and where they are located. As previously stated, I learned a lot about Venezuela through an old school project, so I believe this project builds onto my knowledge of South America as a whole.
How can you apply this to future learning?
It would be incredible if I was able to put this project to use by traveling to Peru, but I feel the more likely way I can apply the knowledge from this project to future work is by continuing to build my knowledge of South America.
