German I - Global Awareness Skills
Name of Assignment: German I
Subject: German Language
Facilitator/Teacher: Emily Meier
Description of Work/Assignment:
This class not only focuses on teaching the German language but also educates me on the German culture. The first few lessons of this class were all about German food, their way of speaking, daily life and mannerisms, etc.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why
This class and the assignments within it address global awareness skills. Not only am I learning a new language, I am learning about the thinking and actions of different cultures and countries.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am proud that I am finally working on completing a goal of mine(which is to become trilingual) and am expanding my worldly knowledge.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I am improving my global awareness skills with this class by taking a leap and learning a new language in hopes of utilizing these skills in the future. My goal is to one day visit Germany and experience what life is like there.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of speaking German is the pronunciation. Many words look similar to english but are pronounced completely differently. For example, the phrase Guten Morgen.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
I can continue to improve my german skills by working hard in class and taking notes. If I were to start over, I would do some solo research on pronunciation first so I could focus more on the meaning of the vocab being given to me.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This relates to what I have learned in the past because I am using my previous knowledge and language learning techniques and applying them to a new language.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply the skills I'm learning to my future by hopefully utilizing these skills in Germany and in upcoming language classes.
